Reform, Innovation and Opportunity: International Trade Cooperation in Oil & Gas under “the Belt and Road” Initiative

The 6th China International Oil & Gas Trade Congress (CIOGTC) was held in Shanghai on 23rd November, 2017. The Trade Development Bureau (TDB) of MOFCOM, supported by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), the National Energy Administration, and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, sponsored the congress.

Nearly 300 participants from 16 countries’ and regions’ well-known oil companies, trading and shipping companies, financial and information institutions, as well as academic research institutes attended the conference.

The 6th CIOGTC built a high-level platform for oil & gas industry, focusing on the theme of “Reform, Innovation and Opportunity: International Trade Cooperation in Oil & Gas under the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative”. Apart from discussing the topic about “exploring the status quo, opportunities and trends of the global crude oil market and the chinese oil trade”, participants also discussed the impacts brought by the “Belt and Road” Initiative on oil & gas cooperation, as well as trade development of China and the world.

Unlike previous one-day congresses, parallel sessions of the 6th CIOGTC was added on the second day, provided opportunities for business networking and cooperation communicating. State-owned oil companies, multinational oil companies and well-known private oil companies, as well as international information companies cosponsored the parallel sessions. Besides, the 6th CIOGTC also added special areas for the enterprises to demonstrate their corporate image and development achievements.

Mr. Wang Shouwen, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), and Mr. Jin Xingming, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, attend the opening ceremony of the 6th CIOGTC and delivered welcome speeches respectively. Senior executives from China North Industries Corporation Group, China National Petroleum Corporation, Sinopec Group, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, Sinochem Group and Shanghai International Energy Exchange also attend the congress and delivered keynote speeches.

Mr. Sun Chenghai, Director-General of TDB, hosted the opening ceremony of the 6th CIOGTC and deliver his conclusion speech, while Mr. Han Shengjian, Deputy Director-General of TDB, hosted the Principal Congress.

Experts from International Energy Agency, Aramco Asia, Argus, S&P Global Platts, Shandong Dongming Petrochemical Group and Chicago Mercantile Exchange made their keynote speeches. Executives from the most representative and authoritative oil companies, trading companies and shipping companies, as well as financial institutions, information agencies and academia also shared their opinions through panel discussion and interaction with the audience. They discussed heated topics like “new perspectives of petroleum trade in the changing pattern of global oil & gas industry”, “new factors affecting the international oil & gas market”, etc.

Since 2012, the CIOGTC has successfully held five consecutive sessions in Shanghai. It has provided a platform for efficient business networking and communicating, which is gaining constant recognition from the oil & gas industry.
